I auditioned to be in a Safe Auto commercial in April, and I was cast as an extra. The day of shooting in Downtown Worthington was a lot of fun!
I reported to the basement of Scottie’s Coffee and Tea House in Worthington early in the morning. The actors, the extras, and wardrobe and makeup ladies were there. There was even a caterer with a large spread of coffees, teas and morning munchies. Only the lead actors had specific outfits to wear. I brought my own clothes – casual, business, something else casual.
Between each scene, the camera and production crew would break down their equipment and then set up for the new location. The director would come downstairs and approve the lead actor’s outfit, and then ask for a couple extras to come up to the set.
I was on the set for the coffeehouse, hardware store and downtown/outside scenes. You can see me walk across the background before the wedgie guy gets lifted off his seat by his underwear. Haha!
It’s a silly commercial, but it was a lot of fun being around the production. It took the greater part of a work day to shoot these segments for a 30 second commercial. It gave me a great appreciation for movies and how long it must take to shoot one. I hope this is something I get to do again… as a lead!
